Welcome to The Arts Society Epsom

The Arts Society Epsom meets monthly (except in August) for lectures on a broad and diverse range of topics.  Founded in 1989 as Epsom Decorative and Fine Arts Society, our members have been sharing a curiosity for the Arts for over 30 years.

Our lectures are given by experienced and highly qualified lecturers who are experts in their chosen field. A full description can be found in the 'Lectures' section.

To supplement the monthly lectures, Special Interest Days (SIDs) are arranged twice per year in which a topic is studied in greater depth. For more details about what these days consist of please see the 'About Us' section.  Information about individual SIDs can be found in the 'Special Interest' section.

The Society also organizes visits to art galleries, museums and places of historic and artistic interest in the UK and tours to overseas cultural centres. Find out more in our 'Visits/Tours' section.

The 'Volunteering' section describes our regular activities of promoting Young Arts, Church Recording and Heritage Volunteering.

The Society is a member of The Arts Society that was founded in 1968 as the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies. The Arts Society works to advance decorative and fine arts education and appreciation, alongside promoting the preservation of artistic heritage. It is a UK-based charity and supports a network of over 360 local societies across the country. In addition, it supports a number of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies in mainland Europe and Australasia.

Free film 'Exhibition on Screen - Caravaggio'

Five years in production, this is the most extensive film ever made about one of the greatest artists of all time – Caravaggio. Featuring masterpiece after masterpiece and with first-hand testimony from the artist himself on the eve of his mysterious death, this beautiful new film reveals Caravaggio as never before.

The intriguing self- depictions within his works – sometimes disguised, sometimes in plain sight – offer a rare window into his psyche and personal struggles. Caravaggio’s masterpieces are some of art’s most instantly recognisable. No one else uses his signature blend of dramatic light, intense naturalism and bold, striking figures. His incredible paintings have captivated audiences for centuries.
